TeXtreme® for Automotive
The automotive industry is accelerating its adoption of advanced composite manufacturing technologies once dominated by aerospace. Automated Fiber Placement (AFP) and Automated Tape Laying (ATL) are transforming how lightweight, high performance vehicle structures are produced, delivering the speed, precision and consistency needed for the next generation of mobility. ATL uses wider tapes (typically 75–300 mm) to rapidly cover large, flat areas, making it ideal for high throughput production of simpler geometries, while AFP applies narrower tows (typically 3.175–12.7 mm) with exceptional precision, perfect for complex curves and tailored fiber orientations. In some cases, hybrid systems combine ATL’s speed with AFP’s flexibility, enabling optimal efficiency and part quality.

Dry UD Tapes Designed for Automotive Efficiency
Aerospace production relies heavily on pre impregnated tapes, while automotive manufacturers are increasingly turning to dry unidirectional (UD) tapes to lower material costs and enable resin injection during molding. This shift supports high volume production but also increases demand for consistent, high quality dry tapes. TeXtreme® leads this transformation. Our dry carbon UD tapes are engineered specifically for AFP and ATL processes, available in widths from 6 mm to 300 mm and weights from 20 gsm to 500 gsm. They can be stabilized with binder, powder or veil to match the customer’s resin system, and our patented Gapped UD technology improves resin flow, making infusion faster, more reliable and more cost efficient.
TeXtreme® tapes are supplied on bobbins or discs and integrate seamlessly into a variety of manufacturing setups. The production capacity supports large scale automotive programs and delivers the material performance, process reliability and innovation needed to meet demanding lightweighting and sustainability goals. TeXtreme® enables the precision and performance of aerospace to merge with the speed and scale of automotive manufacturing, creating lighter, stronger and more efficient vehicles.
